#Methuen Police Department’s Citizen Police Academy is under way.
During week one, the citizen recruits and instructors discussed the process of becoming a Methuen Police Officer. This class included information about the civil service test, the police academy and our field training program. Citizen recruits were then given a tour of the police station.
During week 2, Officer Ramirez discussed the role of a Traffic Officer. He discussed and demonstrated some of the tools he uses during his shift. Attached, in one of the photos, is a student using one of our Lidar units. The Lidar unit is used to determine the speed of a singular vehicle using a laser type beam to determine the speed. This is a very effective tool when there is a lot of vehicle traffic. The citizen recruits were also given a presentation on what the duties and responsibilities are of the Officer in Charge.
