METHUEN — Mayor Neil Perry, Director of Emergency Management Capt. Randy Haggar, and Chief Scott McNamara would like to share safety precautions regarding expected hot weather.
A Heat Advisory has been issued for the City of Methuen, and residents should be advised that oppressive heat and humidity are expected starting Thursday Aug. 4 and continuing into the weekend, with temperatures reaching over 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Humidity levels are also expected to reach above 50 percent.
Residents should remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions when participating in outdoor activities, including staying hydrated.
The City of Methuen recommends residents utilize their air conditioners on days that are over 90 degrees. Cooling stations will be available for residents seeking respite from the heat.
- Nevis Memorial Library, 305 Broadway St., Thursday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- The Senior Center Lobby, 77 Lowell St., Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Gill Ave Playground/Splash Park, 14 Gill Ave., Thursday and Friday until 8 p.m., weather permitting
- Forest Lake, Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., water will be cleared at 7:30 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Cost is $10 per car
- Public Skating at Methuen High School Rink, 1 Ranger Road, Thursday 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., $5 per person, $10 with skate rental
Additionally, pop-up splash parks at the Marsh and the Comprehensive Grammar School, 100 Howe St., will be open Thursday until 3 p.m. and Friday until 1 p.m. weather permitting.

City of Methuen would like to emphasize the dangers of overheating and encourage residents to know the signs of heat-related illnesses.
