A gas leak in Methuen, in the area of 133 Center Street is under control at this time. The gas company has located the source of the leak, gas has been shut off to the area and work to repair the leak is under way at this time. There are no further evacuations and all residents evacuated may return to their homes.
At approximately 2:40 pm today, Methuen Police and Fire Departments responded to the area of Center Street and Broadway for the report of an odor of gas. The Methuen Fire Department reported a high level gas reading in the area of 133 Center Street resulting in an evacuation of Center Street residents as well as the closure of Broadway, French, Chase and Blake Streets. Evacuations were complete within 30 minutes while crews worked to located the source of the leak. At this time, the source of the leak has been identified, gas has been shut off to the area and residents evacuated are allowed back into their homes.
Methuen Officials and Gas crews remain on scene while the gas leak location is repaired.
