Scam Alert:
We have received numerous reports of a scammer calling residents claiming to be a police officer. The male caller is described as having a heavy Eastern Indian accent. The caller says they are from a Texas law enforcement agency, claiming the person has been identified as a subject of a criminal investigation. The scam caller tries to illicit personal information from the person and also attempts to get them to wire money to them via cash cards through local retail stores or store gift cards. The scam caller is very verbally aggressive and may use “spoofing”, where the caller ID shows a Methuen police phone number.
Remember, police officers will NEVER call a person and demand personal identifying information (social security number, DOB) or request cash cards or store credit cards. We advised that residents should never give out personal information unsolicited over the phone.
