METHUEN — Mayor James P. Jajuga and Chief Joseph Solomon are pleased to announce that members of the Methuen Police Department joined seniors last week for their traditional card tournament.
On Wednesday, April 17, officers visited the Methuen Senior Activity Center for the semi-annual Us vs. Them 45’s Tournament. During the tournament, the auditorium was alternately filled with silence, as players were concentrating on the game, and laughter as officers and residents enjoyed one another’s company.
Once again, the seniors emerged victorious, with Emily Barnes and Al D’Agata coming in first place, Fred Lyon and Charles Blatti finishing as the runners-up, and Ken Ackroyd and Gus Sullivan finishing third.
“The 45’s tournament is something our officers look forward to being part of, and I’m hopeful that someday one of our teams will emerge victorious,” Chief Solomon said. “It wasn’t meant to be this time, but I know everyone who participated had a great time.”
For their efforts, the top finishers were awarded gift cards to Irish Cottage, Target and Bada Bing, respectively. The Methuen Police Department would like to thank all three businesses for their support.
“This is a great community tradition,” Mayor Jajuga said. “I’m so grateful for the officers who take time out of their busy days to get to know our seniors and take part in this fantastic community policing initiative. I’m also thankful for the support of the businesses that generously donated gift cards for the winners.”
