The Methuen Police Department would like to make the public aware of a possible scam and suspicious activity which has been attempted twice in the last week.
This morning, a resident from the Prospect St. area called the police to report past suspicious activity involving a person claiming to work for the water department.
The homeowner related that twice in the past week a suspicious female came to the residence stating she was from the Methuen Water Department. The unidentified female presented a lanyard with some sort of identification card on it. The suspicious female asked for the homeowner by name each time she came to the home. The female requested to enter the home and the person who answered the door did not let her inside. The unidentified woman was then asked to leave the property.
The suspicious woman is described as approximately thirty years old, having medium colored skin, and being Hispanic. The female spoke fluent Spanish. She was wearing jeans and “normal” clothing (nothing formal), with dark colored hair in a ponytail. She described the women as not very chubby but “husky”. The unidentified woman was seen in two different vehicles. One was a dark sedan and a white SUV. Both times the female subject parked a few houses down the street.
The City of Methuen did not send anyone to the home and confirmed the female subject is not an employee of the City of Methuen or the Water Department. All city employees will have proper identification visible and will present the identification for inspection when asked.
The police department would like to identify and speak with the female subject involved in these incidents.
If you have information on this woman or have had a similar experience, please call the Methuen Police Department at 978-983-8698.
