Smiles and Gratefulness filled Sanborn Hall today as Cops For Kids With Cancer’s Ed McNelley and Mike Drummy joined Mayor of Methuen, Stephen Zanni, Chief Joe Solomon and Captain Kevin Mahoney in presenting 17 year old Dariel Herrera-Abreu and his Family with a $5000 check donated by Cops for Kids with Cancer. Dariel is a Methuen resident who is currently battling a form of cancer known as renal cell carcinoma. Diagnosed in 2015, Dariel and his family have been faced with the financial struggle and changing family dynamic of frequent visits to clinics, Boston hospitals, and all of the costs associated with his illness and care.
Cops for Kids with Cancer, a volunteer organization, is dedicated to improving the quality of life of children and families fighting cancer. Founded in 2002, Cops for Kids with Cancer has donated over $2.5 million dollars to children and families in need. Of the twenty two dedicated volunteers on the Board of Directors of Cops for Kids with Cancer, twelve are active or retired law enforcement officers. All are extremely dedicated to helping these kids.
Dariel and his Family were extremely grateful for this gift and spoke of the thanks and gratefulness.
