11-Year-Old Struck by Hit and Run Driver in Methuen
Girl Suffered Life-Threatening Injuries
Chief Joseph Solomon will address the media at the scene shortly after 11 p.m.
METHUEN – Chief Joseph Solomon reports that the Methuen Police Department is currently at the scene of a hit and run that left an 11-year-old girl with life-threatening injuries.
At 9:45 p.m., the girl was crossing Broadway near Kirk Street in Methuen with a parent when a vehicle, traveling at a very high rate of speed, struck her.
The driver fled from the scene down Broadway into Lawrence. Multiple law enforcement agencies are now conducting an aggressive search for the suspect. No details about the vehicle are available, however.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the driver made no attempt to stop or slow down. CPR was administered at the scene. The victim was taken to Lawrence General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“This was a cowardly and horrendous act that occurred on our streets tonight, and we will stop at nothing to identify and locate the driver,” Chief Solomon said. “Right now, our prayers go out the victim and her family.”
The name of the victim is not being released.
This is a breaking news update. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
