Methuen Girl Wins Ride with Police Chief and Ice Cream Trip
METHUEN – Mayor Stephen N. Zanni and Chief Joseph Solomon are pleased to announce that the Methuen Police Department awarded a Methuen girl with a special treat earlier this week.
On Tuesday, Aug. 15, Cate Stoddard, 11, and her best friend Sophia Izzi, 11, received an exclusive tour of the police station by Chief Solomon, a ride with the Chief in the department’s pink cruiser “Hope,” and a trip to Mann Orchards for ice cream.
“As a city, we are so incredibly proud of our police department for providing these types of opportunities to our students, giving them a chance to interact with our police officers in a relaxed and fun setting,” Mayor Zanni said. “Congratulations to Cate and her friend Sophia on this exciting trip!”
Stoddard won the trip with Chief Solomon for herself and a friend through a raffle that was held at a fundraising event in July. The fundraiser was for Cory Wheeler, a Methuen resident and student who suffers from Crohn’s disease.
“This is definitely one of the best parts of my job — being able to interact with our youth and develop important relationships with them early on,” Chief Solomon said. “This was particularly special because we made two girls very happy, but at the same time were able to raise money for another young Methuen resident in need.”
Both girls are students at the Tenney School and will be entering the fifth grade when school begins on Aug. 29.
