On Saturday, Officer Tim Getchell and “Hope” attended an event to raise awareness to Veterans who commit suicide.
Members of the Methuen Fire Department were also on hand.
The event was sponsored by the Matthew Patton Foundation; the Patton family lost their son Matthew to Suicide while serving in the U.S. Army on May 13, 2013.
The group set up a display of flags 660 American flags at 44 Hardy Street in Methuen, MA. The flags represent the number of Veterans we lose to Suicide every month, and 1 large American Flag to represent the 40 Active Duty, National Guard and Active Reservists we lose to Suicide every month.
The display will stay up for 30 days and will also be lit up at night.
