Methuen Police Department Participates in National Night Out
METHUEN – Mayor Stephen N. Zanni and Chief Joseph Solomon are pleased to announce that the Methuen Police Department hosted a successful National Night Out.
Held on Aug. 1, National Night Out is a campaign designed to promote partnerships between police and fire officials and their communities to foster relationships and improve safety in neighborhoods. It occurs every year on the first Tuesday in August.
In Methuen, neighborhoods that wanted to be a part of the celebration registered with the police department to host a block party with food, music and games.
Four teams of Methuen police officers, along with Methuen police dispatchers, members of the Methuen Fire Department, Methuen Police C.A.R.E.S. advocates and the Methuen Police Department Explorers visited registered block parties throughout the city. McGruff the crime dog, Sparky the fire safety dog and K-9 Duke also made special appearances during the event.
“This annual celebration is something we look forward to putting on every summer,” Mayor Zanni said. “This year, as in years past, police, fire and city officials had a great time building relationships with our residents while enjoying homemade food and music.”
Throughout the event, citizens took the opportunity to thank members of the police and fire departments for their commitment, dedication and service to Methuen.
“Everyone was excited to meet and get to know some of the members of the Methuen Police Department,” Chief Solomon said. “For us, this is a great opportunity to learn more about our community, build relationships with residents and address any topics and concerns that are important to them.”
Residents who want to participate in next year’s National Night Out should keep an eye out of for registration information on the Methuen Police Department’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and website (mpdnews.com) in June.
