Methuen K-9 Duke Tracks Tewksbury Robbery Suspect Resulting in Arrest
It was Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at approximately 7:30pm when Methuen K-9 Duke and his handler Officer Matthew Mueskes were called to respond to Market Basket, 10 Main Street in Tewksbury, Ma to assist in the search for a Robbery suspect. The Robber had just robbed Market Basket and fled on foot.
Duke picked up and tracked the suspects scent for over a quarter of a mile, leading officers right to the suspect, as he hurriedly crossed a McDonald’s parking lot. The suspect was detained and ultimately arrested.
Duke was donated to the Methuen Police Department by Dr. Mike Jones, DVM of Glen Rose Texas. Duke has been with the Methuen Police Department for two and a half years. He is a three and a half year old bloodhound trained in human trailing. When not working or relaxing, Duke likes to play in his yard chasing squirrels.
Officer Matt Mueskes has been with the Methuen Police Department for five years. He was formally trained with Duke and enjoys his time as Duke’s handler. Officer Mueskes and Duke are members of NEMLEC K-9, a regional team that operates by sharing resources and personnel, collectively providing services to each other that might not be available to one at one time.
Congratulations to Officer Mueskes and Duke on a job well done. We appreciate your dedication, loyalty and service to the Methuen Police Department and surrounding communities that you serve.
