Methuen Police Investigating Death of Man Found in Methuen
METHUEN — Mayor Stephen Zanni and Chief Joseph Solomon report that the Methuen Police Department is investigating the death of a 51-year-old Methuen man found unresponsive this morning.
On Thursday, June 15, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Methuen Police responded to the Edward S. Alekel Veterans Memorial Park at 123 Milk St. for a report of an unresponsive male leaning on a bench. Upon arrival, police officers and the Methuen Fire Department located a deceased man near the rear baseball field of the park.
Methuen Police Detectives, along with the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, are investigating the death, which does not appear suspicious at this time. A preliminary investigation indicates a possible drug overdose.
“We want to assure residents that there was never any danger to the community and that all necessary precautions were taken to ensure that the park is safe and sanitary for them to use,” Mayor Zanni said.
“This is a very sad situation where we suspect that an individual died of a drug overdose,” Chief Solomon said. “We do not suspect any foul play at this point and residents should feel comfortable continuing to visit and use the park.”
