Over the past month there has been four (4) house breaks in the lower Haverhill Street area between Madison Ave and Glen Ave. An unknown suspect(s) have entered these homes by way of an open door. A fifth attempt was unsuccessful when the homeowner heard the door knob turning. The most recent break occurred tonight on Avon Street.
During the same period of time in this area of town there has been an additional three (3) house breaks into locked houses that occurred during the day.
The following are some tips to help make your home safer and less of a target by potential burglars:
A short list of safety check points to make your home safer.
1. Make a security check list and post in a prominent place.
I. Lock all doors and windows. Number One Safety Tip
II. Leave a light on if you will not be back until after dark.
III. Verify that any window air-conditioning units are secured to the window frame.
IV. Verify that motion sensor lights are turned on.
V. Verify that you have set a “Charlie Bar” or commercial locking device in your sliding doors.
VI. Set alarm.
2. Account for all of the keys to your house.
3. If you use an emergency key hider, make sure it is not placed in an obvious location and that it is not easily identifiable.
