Last evening, Sunday May 6, 2012 at approximately 11:00 P.M. the Methuen Police Department was notified by the Middleton NH Police Department that retired officer David Stead was killed in a single vehicle motorcycle crash in Middleton NH earlier in the evening.
David Stead was a police officer with the City of Methuen from May, 1988 thru November of 2001 when he left the department through a disability retirement after suffering a debilitating cruiser crash. Officer Stead was working on Rt. 213 when his police cruiser was struck by a motor vehicle driving through the construction zone.
Retired Officer Stead was last assigned as a patrol officer within the Field Operations Bureau and had previously served in assignments as Motorcycle Officer and also within the Criminal Investigations Bureau.
Officer Stead was a “cop’s cop”. He was very interested in trying to make things better for other police officers. He had a great sense of humor and dedicated to the citizens of this community.
The thoughts and prayers of the Methuen Police Department are with Officer Stead’s family. May he rest in Peace.
